Who is "JUG RACING"?
OK,,,,,,,,So maybe there is something more productive I could be doing. Or maybe I'm just bored. But I thought it might be fun to take a look at the racers, past and present that make up the Empty Jug Racing Club, and maybe gain some insight into what makes Jug Racing what it is.
When we started in 1993, we started with nothing, and we still have most of it left, but we've gone from a couple guys with old cars racing twice a year to our present schedule with all the track equipment and everything that goes along with it, so, what kind of person does it take to do something like this with no money, no resources, and no sponsors, just hard work, giving of ones time, and a perseverance that says something about ones commitment to and love of racing.
So lets look:
Fred "the Flagman" Kuhl Retired, Long Island Railroad Jim Smith Highway Maintenance
George "Cornerman" Hibbs Retired Military Bob Drongoski Salvage Yard Operator
Woody Hutchinson, Pres. Mechanical Engineer Robbie Drongoski Bodyman
Ed Wargo Teacher Doug Case Excavator
Chuck Rosemergy Township Road Master Bill Case Contractor
Rob Markhardt NYC Fireman Craig Case Snowmobile Dealer
Wayne Kmieczak Field Eng/ Surveyor Mark Case Logger
Stan Field Drywall Finisher Scott Pasquarello Production Line Painter
Ed Boyle Maintenance Mechanic Paul McGinnis Surveyor
Doug Clouse Home Builder Glen Snay Delivers Burger King
Gary Repsher Equipment Operator Matt Kmieczak Fork Truck Mechanic
Ralph Davis Quarry Foreman Joe Post Beer Truck Driver
Peter Hutchinson Small Business Owner Chuck Miszler Builder
Jason Hibbs Grocery Clerk Beth Troast Auto parts counter-person
I'm sure there are people I have missed, but this list should tell us something.
At least 18 are married.
26 work at least one full time job.
The youngest is 24, the oldest is 70.
Stan last drove in 1958, Doug started this year.
Matt and Charlie Jr. started driving at 14.
So what does this tell us?? What makes it work?. Darned if I know! Maybe there is some Analytical Science type out there that can tell us.
In the meantime, we'll just continue the "JUG" tradition of GOOD FRIENDS, who will help their buddy when he's broke, and race him like hell when he isn't, GOOD FOOD, GOOD BEER' FAST CARS, and Clean Hard Racin'. What the heck,,,,,,,,,,,,it seems to work!!
